The Omega Seamaster family is quite large. From the tiny 34mm watch with 18mm lugs (Seamaster “De Ville” even existed) to the latest Seamaster James Bond, from the mythical 165.024 watches prized by collectors to the Omega Chronostop also declined as a Seamaster, the models are numerous and all iconic. Omega’s range dedicated to the sea, the Seamaster collection is a perfect match for the nautical identity of Avel and Men. But which bracelet should you choose for your Seamaster? Depending on the model, its year and your style, the answer may vary. This guide gives you a better understanding of what kind of watch strap best suits your Seamaster and how to change it.
Omega Seamaster: different straps for different models
Launched in 1948 to celebrate Omega’s 100th anniversary, the Seamaster quickly became a watchmaking reference, particularly thanks to the performance of its diver models. Its name was not chosen at random. From the start, this master of the seas is equipped with an exceptional water-resistance compared to the standards of the time. The use of a special thoric seal located at the level of the crown made this possible.
Today, the Seamaster is still among the most popular models offered by Omega, along with the Speedmaster. Not only do these models still appeal, but some of them even continue to increase in value. This is especially true when it comes to special and/or limited editions like the Seamaster 300 SPECTRE, released in 2015 in honor of the James Bond movie with the same name (limited edition of 7007 pieces).
Nowadays, the Omega Seamaster range is divided into four groups, all of which include numerous models:
- Aqua Terra: sleek design, date window at 6 o’clock (previously at 3 o’clock), Master Chronometer certification, original bracelet in steel, leather or structured rubber.
- Diver 300M: launched in 1993, the Seamaster diver has quickly become a cult model. With its military-inspired design, helium valve that allows it to remain water-resistant to 50 meters, even if accidentally opened underwater, and METAS-certified Master Chronometer movement, it is equipped with a metal or integrated rubber strap.
- Planet Ocean: launched in 2005, the Planet Ocean range is available in 45.5mm (chronograph), 43.5mm and 39.5mm. It features a ceramic dial and bezel with a water-resistant leather strap or rubber strap with antibacterial treatment.
- Heritage Models: vintage-inspired models featuring Omega’s greatest successes and lesser-known models. These include Seamasters with numerous complications or specials such as the Seamaster 300 in bronze or the Seamaster Olympic Games collection with its microperforated leather strap in the colors of the Olympic rings.
How to choose a strap for an Omega Seamaster?
Choosing a new wristband for a Seamaster is always a fascinating experience as there are always new combinations to be found. The easiest thing to do is to choose a bracelet that is similar to the original model, but it is tempting to choose an original combination! In a previous article, we talked about the different options of Avel and Men watchstraps for the Omega Speedmaster. Most of its advice remains perfectly valid for a Seamaster.
Here are a few more ideas.
Seamaster vintage and heritage: daring leather
Omega Seamaster from the 50s and 60s, as well as the De Ville models, offer very different styles. For a dressy look, a “yacht club” Seamaster with an ostrich skin leather strap is always chic and effective, especially for the models with 18 mm lugs.
For a vintage Seamaster Diver that will not dive much anymore, choosing leather is a risk that is not a risk at all, as leather is so elegant on a diver. Our Douarnenez watchstrap in full grain leather makes an excellent choice. It is available in navy, burgundy, camel brown and light blue.
For models that will still see the ocean depths, sailcloth makes an obvious choice.

For the 165.024 Bakelite divers in the Submariner spirit, as well as all Seasmaster Diver models in general (300M for example), the canvas straps reveal their full potential. This is certainly the case for the Tampa in Cordura canvas, the Port Louis and Larmor plage in Seaqual canvas or the various models in our range of sailcloth straps (La Rochelle, Hyères, Carantec and Ouessant).

How to change the strap of an Omega Seamaster?
The process of changing the strap on a Seamaster can vary depending on the model, its year and the strap already fitted to the watch. Nevertheless, the exercise is usually relatively easy and you should be able to do it with a simple strap removal tool such as Bergeon 6767F. You will then be able to easily handle all types of spring bars, regardless of their brand.
To avoid any risk of scratching, it is possible to use a small piece of adhesive tape or a simple piece of flexible plastic (like the one that covers the glass of a new watch).
- Protect the horns with tape (optional).
- Remove the first side of the pin with the thinner side of the tool, and then repeat on the other side.
- Take advantage of having a bare watch head for cleaning it.
- Place one pin in the slot of the strap provided for this purpose.
- Place one end in the corresponding hole of the watch horn.
- Use the tool again to place the other end in the opposite hole: the first half of the bracelet is attached to your Seamaster!
- Repeat on the other side: the strap of your Omega Seamaster is changed and it is ready to sail to new horizons!
