AVEL & MEN PRESENTS ITS SAILCLOTH STRAP, OUESSANT

Avel & Men is pleased to present a new watch strap made from sailcloth: the Ouessant model! Made from storm sail fabric, it is therefore orange, like the storm jibs sailors must have on board when sailing in strong winds. Agnès Broise, co-founder and head of design at Avel & Men, enthuses: “This fabric speaks to sailors, and the color pairs perfectly with many dive watches or chronographs with orange dials and hands!”

“He who sees Ouessant, sees his blood!”

But why choose the name of this Finistère island, located off Porspoder, where Avel & Men is based? “The saying ‘He who sees Ouessant sees his blood’ doesn’t exist by chance,” explains Xavier Broise, the founder of Avel & Men. “This sailing area is particularly difficult, with often strong winds and violent currents that can create a rough sea. I was 9 years old when Peter Blake won the Jules Verne Trophy and crossed the finish line off Ouessant under very reduced sail; this exceptional sailor confided at the time that this end of the race had been very difficult, even though he had just sailed in the Southern Seas and rounded Cape Horn…”

The Avel & Men team is proud to offer a range of watch accessories and straps made in France that evoke the scent of iodine; follow us on Instagram and our website to discover our new products throughout the spring.
